Foods occur as solids, liquids, or both, and sometimes their consistency changes during production or storage. They also often contain a mixture of substances such as proteins, starches, sugars, fats, and much more. The variations in shape, size, and color are almost endless, and all these factors must be taken into account when developing new products. FT-NIR

Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR) is a simple, relatively fast, and reproducible method for the analysis of powders and liquids. The method is direct and non-destructive, which neither disrupts production nor contributes to waste. The Thermo Scientific Antaris II FT-NIR Analyzer is used both for method development and quality control, as well as for monitoring as an in-line system. For example, Antaris II helps with:

  • quality evaluation of meat products, edible oils, beverages, processed foods, sugars and other sweeteners, seeds, and dairy products
  • monitoring of drying processes of milk powders
  • instant analysis and reporting of nutritional facts
  • verification of the identity and uniformity of fortified products and ingredients.
FTIR

The Thermo Scientific Nicolet Summit OA FTIR spectrometer is specifically designed for the rapid measurement of viscous and liquid samples. It is a robust, easy-to-use instrument that offers ideal performance and is suitable for QC testing as well as material identification. With its integrated HATR accessory, it provides constant and reproducible path lengths and is well suited for both quantitative and qualitative analysis. This instrument:

  • enables rapid characterization of e.g. oil, liquid, syrup and paste samples
  • verifies oil qualities and ensures consistent product appearance for snack manufacturers, among others
  • creates customer-specific applications for qualitative and quantitative analysis of food products
  • is easy to use and intuitive, which quickly integrates it into production
UV-Vis

Among our wide range of UV-Vis spectrophotometers, Genesys 150 is an excellent choice of instrument for rapid analysis of liquids such as syrup, honey, beer, and other colored beverages. A simple push of a button, together with the pre-set analysis programs, provides fast and reliable results, smoothly and easily. The instrument is also designed to withstand thorough cleaning without damaging the electronics. With its many applications, the Genesys 150 helps with:

  • measurement of syrup color to ensure consistent production
  • monitoring of enzymatic reactions, such as lactose degradation
  • analysis of contaminants in drinking water, such as lead, glyphosate, or discoloration
