The Cryo-Pulse 5 also called CP5, is an electric cryostat for cooling HPGe detectors. It uses a pulse tube cooler, which has proven to be a very reliable technology. The Cryo-Pulse 5 Plus consists of a cooling head to which the detector is connected, and an external power controller. The interface between detector and cooling finger is still recognizable from older versions, but the internal gauges are of a completely new design.
A pulse-tube cooler contains CFC-free, non-flammable gas and is hermetically sealed, so no refilling of gas is required. The compressor contains no oil or lubricant, so no contamination of the refrigerant occurs and no periodic filter replacement is required. This makes the Cryo-Pulse 5 Plus cryostat completely maintenance-free.
