Graves Phantom

Graves Phantom was developed in collaboration with Stephen Graves at the University of Iowa, and is an easy-to-use, water-equivalent phantom that includes 6 standard lab bottles.

In order to give the right dose when treating with radioactive drugs, you must be able to measure accurately. This requires good equipment and that the systems are set up correctly. Graves Phantom is an aid that makes this easier. It is a container filled with water and standard lab bottles that are used to calibrate measuring equipment.

The smart thing about Graves Phantom is that it mimics how radiation spreads in the body in a more realistic way than simpler testing methods, such as point sources. At the same time, it is much easier to use than advanced 3D models of organs. This makes it easier for hospitals and researchers to measure correctly – and thus provide patients with safer and more effective treatment.
