Series 6LB is an automatic low background alpha/beta counting system developed by Mirion. The system uses a 2.25″ gas flow proportional counter with a capacity of 50 or 100 samples, depending on the model. It is designed to analyze a variety of sample types including air filters, water samples, iron samples, soil samples, and more. Some key features;

  • Frontal Access: Easy access without having to lift the lead block; the detector change slides away from the lead shield.
  • Integrated Touchscreen: Interactive screen for easy operation and direct data management.
  • USB Communication: Connects via USB and compatible with Apex-Alpha/Beta software V2.1 or higher.
  • Coated Lead Shield: Protects users from lead exposure with a coated lead shield.
  • Lock and Load Sample Stacks: Pre-loadable and easily removable sample stacks.
  • Gasless Anti-Coincidence Cosmic Guard Detector: Improved gas consumption compared to older systems.
  • Self-Diagnostics and Environmental Monitoring: Monitors and diagnoses system health and environmental conditions such as temperature, air pressure, and humidity.
  • NFC/RFID Sample Tagging: Possibility to use NFC and RFID technology for sample identification.

Advantages compared to other low background systems;

Low Background and High Efficiency: Combines low background radiation with high analysis capacity, ideal for a wide range of sample types.
Gas Consumption: Significantly lower gas consumption thanks to the gasless guard detector system, which reduces the need for P-10 gas and extends the life of gas cylinders.
Backward Compatibility: Can read traditional binary coded decimal (BCD) sample carriers and identify modern barcodes and RFID tags.
Easy Access and Maintenance: The “system on slide” design allows access to the detector chamber without having to handle heavy lead blocks.
Flexibility and Customization: The system can be configured with various accessories such as barcode scanner and camera, which facilitates sample handling and documentation.
