CeBr₃ (Cerium bromide) scintillation crystals offer an alternative to NaI(Tl) for high resolution gamma spectrometric applications. Above a gamma energy of about 200 keV, the energy resolution of LaCl₃:Ce is superior to NaI(Tl). CeBr3 scintillation detectors do not suffer from the intrinsic background typical for Lanthanum Halide detectors like LaCl₃:Ce and LaBr₃:Ce
