Get to know Martin Karlsson!

Martin Karlsson works as a service engineer in our Nuclear Service Team. In this employee interview, he talks more about his day-to-day work at Gammadata and shares his view on what the recently launched comprehensive solution Gammadata 360° means to him.

Hi Martin! Tell us about yourself, what you do at Gammadata, and how long you’ve worked here.
After 23 years in the nuclear power industry in various roles, I was offered the opportunity to join Gammadata as a Service Engineer. I’ve had that role for 5 years now, and I enjoy it, despite a lot of travelling and a high workload.

Despite all the travelling and the workload – what does a typical workday or week look like for you? Do you have any specific routines?
A typical workweek starts with a morning meeting with the Nuclear service team, where we go through the week and plan upcoming assignments. After that, I prepare for the week’s work: I pack tools, check the equipment, and touch base with the customer one last time to make sure everything is ready.

I usually travel either on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning, depending on the assignment. The actual work at the customer’s site normally starts on Tuesday. Once the job is completed, I travel back home, sometimes the same day and sometimes the next, depending on how extensive the assignment is.

At the end of the week, I focus on follow-up: I write a service report that is sent to the customer, complete my travel expenses, and prepare the basis for invoicing. Then I start planning and preparing for the following week. There is a lot of travelling and planning, but it also brings a nice variety to everyday life.

What is your best tip for improving the workday?
To be well prepared, and to make sure that both I and the customer – and their site – are ready for the work that is going to be carried out. That reduces the risk of misunderstandings and of anything going wrong in the process.

How would you describe the team dynamics at Gammadata and the collaboration between colleagues?
At Gammadata, there is always someone to turn to if I have questions – from knowledgeable salespeople to extremely skilled physicists. If no one has the solution right away, we always work together as a team to find one.

How has your role changed since you started at Gammadata, and what have you learned?
My role at Gammadata has gradually evolved into a more senior function. Today, I work to a large extent as a mentor and support for colleagues who have been with the company for a shorter time. I often act as a sounding board on technical questions, interpreting requirements, and ways of working, and I help to raise the quality of both our deliveries and our customer dialogue.

I bring many years of experience from the nuclear power sector, where I have worked in environments with high demands on safety, traceability, and regulatory compliance. This background allows me to combine practical field experience with a structured way of working and a strong focus on quality, which is appreciated both internally and by our customers.

This past autumn (September 2025), Gammadata 360° was launched. How would you describe what Gammadata 360° means, in your own words?
For me, Gammadata 360° is about giving the customer a complete solution – from installation, annual servicing, and repairs to being there as a trusted advisor when problems arise. It’s about being a reliable expert and a trusted partner for the customer.

That’s how I see Gammadata 360°, and I know that, together as a team, we can deliver exactly that to our customers.

What value do you think Gammadata 360° creates for the customer?
I already see that customers value Gammadata 360° very highly. Above all, it is about the security of having someone to turn to – not only with technical questions, but also regarding how to use the equipment and in more measurement-related issues. They get a partner who is there for them all the way.

And finally, on a more personal note: What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I spend a lot of time with my family – my wife and our two children. I enjoy travelling, cooking, and skiing, and I also try to fit in some exercise when I can.
